Our Strategy of going east to avoid tropical Storm Beryl seems to be working out so far .. we've had a great day of sailing with 15-20 knots of breeze from the South east and have coveread about 225 miles in 30 hours, so we're making good time. The Gulf stream is its usual state of lumpy, disorganized seas, but we'll take that if we get the associated wind with comes with it and is propelling it that is propelling us along. Both Tom and I got the boat up to 11.4 knots (surfing down the waves) and we seem to be averaging over 8 knots over the bottom.
We had a great, healthy dinner of
tortellini and vegetables. The wind has picked up so during the post dinner
watch change we put a reef in the main, and are now cranking Jimmy Buffet,
Joaquin Sabino and Bob Marley on the radio.
We are presently
threading though the various eddies and current fields of the gulf stream,
taking a bit of meandering path, but getting help from currents when we
can. Our current estimates have us passing Cape Hatteras on Tuesday night
late, and arriving Cape May late Wednesday night.
We'll check in tomorrow
with an update
